Termite Control: Warning Signs to Look For

What Termite Warning Signs Can Tell You
Mud tubes on foundation walls are the most specific sign there is. Subterranean termites cannot cross open air without drying out, so they build a covered highway up the masonry, and a pencil width tube on a pier or a foundation wall is close to proof. Hollow sounding wood is the structural sign: they eat the softer spring growth and leave the harder layers, so a member that sounds hollow under a probe has already lost section. Discarded swarmer wings are the seasonal one, and they matter more than their size suggests.
A pile of identical wings on a windowsill in spring means a mature colony released reproductives, and mature means it has been established for years, usually nearby. Swarmers indoors are a stronger signal than swarmers outdoors.
What these signs cannot tell you is how much wood has been affected, because the damage is inside the member and the surface can look sound. That is found with a probe and a moisture meter, and it is also why what is keeping the wood wet gets looked at in the same visit.

Learn moreA Local, Family Owned Team in South Hill
Rozier is a family owned, faith-driven company based in South Hill. Because moisture is what invites termites and rodents in the first place, real prevention starts below the surface.
We treat the infestation and correct the moisture conditions that caused it, instead of handing you to a second contractor.
Each home we visit is assessed through a pest lens and a moisture lens, because underneath a house they are the same problem.
We do not arrive with a predetermined treatment and a timer running. What we propose follows from what we find.
Children, pets and sensitive family members are part of the decision about what gets used and how it is applied.
