What Affects the Cost
Pricing depends on the size of the property, the extent of the problem, and how easy the area is to access.
Fuzzy means bee, shiny means wasp, and the difference decides what happens next.
Bees and wasps get confused constantly, and the confusion matters because it decides what happens next. A honey bee colony is handled as a relocation question. A yellow jacket colony is treated. Getting it wrong in either direction has a cost.
The quickest tell is texture. Bees are fuzzy. Honey bees, bumble bees and carpenter bees are covered in branched hairs that trap pollen, so they look soft even from a few feet away. Wasps and hornets are smooth and shiny, with a hard looking body and a clearly narrow waist. If it looks like it has fur, it is almost certainly a bee.
Color helps next. Honey bees are golden brown with muted dark bands. Bumble bees are big, round and black with broad yellow or orange bands. Carpenter bees look like bumble bees but with a shiny, bare black abdomen. Yellow jackets are bright lemon yellow with crisp black bands. Paper wasps are brown or reddish brown with long legs that dangle in flight. Bald faced hornets are black and white with no yellow at all. European hornets are big, brown and yellow with a reddish head.
Behavior is the third clue. Bees visit flowers. Wasps hunt, and yellow jackets in particular show up at trash cans, picnics, sugary drinks and pet food. Bees fly in a steady line between flowers and the hive. Wasps zigzag and hover. Mud daubers gather mud at wet spots. Cicada killers dig in bare ground.
The nest tells you the most. Honey bees build wax comb in an enclosed cavity and are the only ones that store honey. Bumble bees nest in the ground in small colonies, often in an old rodent burrow. Carpenter bees drill clean round holes in wood. Paper wasps build open combs where you can see the cells. Yellow jackets build enclosed paper nests in the ground or in a void. Bald faced hornets hang theirs in the open. European hornets build in wall voids, attics and hollow trees.
Stinging differs too. A honey bee stings once and dies, and the stinger stays in the skin. Wasps and hornets can sting repeatedly. Bumble bees and carpenter bees can sting more than once but rarely do. If you are still not sure, a clear photo helps, and identification is part of the free inspection. We would rather identify a honey bee colony correctly than treat something that should have been relocated.
We choose the treatment method based on what we find during the inspection and the type of pest problem on the property.
A treated surface where wasps like to build, applied before and during the season.
The nest is treated first, then taken down once the colony has stopped moving.
The cavity is treated through its own opening, and the hole is never sealed first.
Yellow jackets and cicada killers are treated at the entrance hole, where the colony comes and goes.
Generic advice treats every market identically. Humid summers, wooded lots and a great deal of older housing stock give this region a moisture profile that drives both structural damage and pest pressure, which is why our diagnosis starts with where the home sits and how it is built, not just with the symptom you called about.
For much of the year the outside air across this region holds more moisture than the air under a crawl space. That inverts the assumption foundation vents were built on. Warm, humid air enters through the vents, meets the cooler surfaces beneath the floor, and condenses on joists, ductwork and insulation. The vents intended to dry the space are wetting it instead.
That single mechanism explains most of what we are called out for. Damp framing softens and decays. Mold establishes and its odor rises into the living space through the floor. Termites, cockroaches and rodents are drawn to exactly those conditions. Treating the insects without addressing the moisture underneath simply resets the clock.
Around Lake Gaston and across the forested parts of Mecklenburg, Brunswick, Warren and Halifax counties, shade and tree cover keep soil damp well after the surrounding area has dried. Standing water lingers, foundations stay wet longer after rain, and mosquito habitat persists through more of the season. Properties like these frequently need drainage attention before any treatment is worth doing.
Petersburg and Danville in particular carry a great deal of older housing, and age brings construction details that predate current moisture practice: open crawl spaces with bare soil, wood in direct contact with the ground, original drainage that has silted up, and decades of accumulated repairs. An inspection of a house like that has to read the whole system rather than one symptom.
The signs below are the most common pest and moisture indicators we see in homes in our region. Any of them is worth having looked at during an inspection.
Our specialists evaluate the underlying cause before recommending any work. Inspections are at no cost and there's no obligation to proceed.
Rozier is a family owned, faith-driven company based in South Hill. Because moisture is what invites termites and rodents in the first place, real prevention starts below the surface.
We treat the infestation and correct the moisture conditions that caused it, instead of handing you to a second contractor.
Each home we visit is assessed through a pest lens and a moisture lens, because underneath a house they are the same problem.
We do not arrive with a predetermined treatment and a timer running. What we propose follows from what we find.
Children, pets and sensitive family members are part of the decision about what gets used and how it is applied.

Every home is different, so the cost depends on what we find during the inspection. We provide a written estimate based on the scope of work, access, and site conditions.
Pricing depends on the size of the property, the extent of the problem, and how easy the area is to access.
If the inspection points to a different problem or a simpler solution, we’ll explain that and recommend the appropriate next step.
We put the scope and price in writing before work starts, so you know what has been recommended and what it will cost.
