What Affects the Cost
Pricing depends on the size of the property, the extent of the problem, and how easy the area is to access.
Carpenter ants choose wood that is already wet. The nest is usually a moisture problem in disguise.
Carpenter ants are the large black ants, a quarter inch to half an inch long, that homeowners notice walking along a countertop or a window sill in spring and early summer. Seeing a few indoors does not always mean the nest is inside. Workers travel a long way to forage, and a colony in a tree stump or a woodpile will send scouts through a house at night. Seeing many, or seeing winged ants indoors, is a stronger sign the colony is in the structure.
Carpenter ants do not eat wood. They excavate it to make galleries for the nest, and they push the debris out through small openings. That debris, called frass, looks like coarse sawdust and often contains bits of insect parts. A small pile of it below a window frame, a sill plate, a porch column or a crawl space joist is the sign worth taking seriously. Their galleries are smooth and clean inside, which is one way an inspection tells them apart from termite damage, where the galleries are packed with soil and mud.
What matters most is why the ants chose that wood. Carpenter ants nest in damp wood because it is softer to excavate. A colony in a sill plate means water has been reaching that sill plate for a while, from a roof edge, a window that does not shed water, or humid crawl space air under the floor. In our region, with red clay that holds water against foundations and long humid summers, wood near the ground stays wet longer than most homeowners expect.
Our approach starts with a free inspection with no obligation. A technician finds the nest, or the nests, since carpenter ants often keep a main colony outdoors and satellite colonies inside a house. We use non repellent products and baits that foraging workers carry back, so the treatment reaches the queen. Where the nest sits in a wall or a void, we inject it directly.
Then we tell you plainly what is keeping the wood wet. Treating the colony and leaving the moisture in place invites the next colony into the same board. Because we handle crawl space and moisture work with the same team, we can show you the source and explain the fix, and where the moisture has weakened framing, we can assess that too.
We choose the treatment method based on what we find during the inspection and the type of pest problem on the property.
Treat the mounds you can see, or the whole lawn when the colonies are everywhere.
A treated zone the ants cannot detect, so they walk through it and carry it home.
A residual band around the house that ants have to cross to get in.
Workers carry the bait home and share it, so the colony is treated where it lives.
When the colony lives in the wall, the treatment goes into the wall.
Generic advice treats every market identically. Humid summers, wooded lots and a great deal of older housing stock give this region a moisture profile that drives both structural damage and pest pressure, which is why our diagnosis starts with where the home sits and how it is built, not just with the symptom you called about.
For much of the year the outside air across this region holds more moisture than the air under a crawl space. That inverts the assumption foundation vents were built on. Warm, humid air enters through the vents, meets the cooler surfaces beneath the floor, and condenses on joists, ductwork and insulation. The vents intended to dry the space are wetting it instead.
That single mechanism explains most of what we are called out for. Damp framing softens and decays. Mold establishes and its odor rises into the living space through the floor. Termites, cockroaches and rodents are drawn to exactly those conditions. Treating the insects without addressing the moisture underneath simply resets the clock.
Around Lake Gaston and across the forested parts of Mecklenburg, Brunswick, Warren and Halifax counties, shade and tree cover keep soil damp well after the surrounding area has dried. Standing water lingers, foundations stay wet longer after rain, and mosquito habitat persists through more of the season. Properties like these frequently need drainage attention before any treatment is worth doing.
Petersburg and Danville in particular carry a great deal of older housing, and age brings construction details that predate current moisture practice: open crawl spaces with bare soil, wood in direct contact with the ground, original drainage that has silted up, and decades of accumulated repairs. An inspection of a house like that has to read the whole system rather than one symptom.
The signs below are the most common pest and moisture indicators we see in homes in our region. Any of them is worth having looked at during an inspection.
Our specialists evaluate the underlying cause before recommending any work. Inspections are at no cost and there's no obligation to proceed.
Rozier is a family owned, faith-driven company based in South Hill. Because moisture is what invites termites and rodents in the first place, real prevention starts below the surface.
We treat the infestation and correct the moisture conditions that caused it, instead of handing you to a second contractor.
Each home we visit is assessed through a pest lens and a moisture lens, because underneath a house they are the same problem.
We do not arrive with a predetermined treatment and a timer running. What we propose follows from what we find.
Children, pets and sensitive family members are part of the decision about what gets used and how it is applied.

Every home is different, so the cost depends on what we find during the inspection. We provide a written estimate based on the scope of work, access, and site conditions.

Carpenter ant treatment is the wrong call if the insects are actually termites. The inspection settles that first, because the two need different work.
We put the scope and price in writing before work starts, so you know what has been recommended and what it will cost.
