The small brown cockroach in the kitchen breeds faster than any other, so the plan depends on how far it has gotten.
The German cockroach is the small, light brown cockroach, about half an inch long, with two dark stripes running down behind the head. If you are seeing cockroaches in a kitchen or bathroom, especially small ones and especially at night, this is the most likely species. It is also the one that grows into a serious problem fastest.
German cockroaches live their whole lives indoors. They do not come in from the yard. They arrive in grocery bags, cardboard boxes, second hand appliances and furniture, or through shared walls in duplexes and apartments. Once inside they settle into warm, tight, damp spaces near food and water: under and behind the refrigerator, inside the motor housing of a dishwasher, behind the stove, in the hinge side of cabinet doors and around the plumbing under a sink. A female carries her egg case until it is nearly ready to hatch, and each case holds thirty or more young. A few cockroaches can become hundreds in a couple of months.
How we treat depends on how far things have gotten, and the inspection tells us. For a light problem, bait alone is the right tool. A technician places small amounts of bait in the cracks and voids the cockroaches are using. They feed on it, carry it back into the harborage and share it through grooming and droppings, so the product reaches insects that never leave the void. Bait works over days and weeks rather than instantly, and we ask you not to spray around it, because repellent sprays keep the cockroaches from feeding.
For a severe infestation, bait alone falls behind the breeding rate. In those cases we start with a HEPA vacuum cleanout. A technician vacuums live cockroaches, egg cases, shed skins and droppings directly out of the harborage, which brings the population down at once and removes the debris that attracts more. That is followed by a liquid application into the cracks, voids and edges the cockroaches travel.
Sanitation and moisture decide whether the result holds. German cockroaches need water daily, so a dripping trap under the sink or a dishwasher that leaks at the door will support a population through any treatment. Wiping grease, sealing food, taking out cardboard and fixing drips are part of the plan, and your technician will tell you which ones matter in your kitchen. The inspection is free and carries no obligation.
We choose the treatment method based on what we find during the inspection and the type of pest problem on the property.

Removing insects, egg cases and the conditions that feed them makes the treatment that follows work.
Generic advice treats every market identically. Humid summers, wooded lots and a great deal of older housing stock give this region a moisture profile that drives both structural damage and pest pressure, which is why our diagnosis starts with where the home sits and how it is built, not just with the symptom you called about.
For much of the year the outside air across this region holds more moisture than the air under a crawl space. That inverts the assumption foundation vents were built on. Warm, humid air enters through the vents, meets the cooler surfaces beneath the floor, and condenses on joists, ductwork and insulation. The vents intended to dry the space are wetting it instead.
That single mechanism explains most of what we are called out for. Damp framing softens and decays. Mold establishes and its odor rises into the living space through the floor. Termites, cockroaches and rodents are drawn to exactly those conditions. Treating the insects without addressing the moisture underneath simply resets the clock.
Around Lake Gaston and across the forested parts of Mecklenburg, Brunswick, Warren and Halifax counties, shade and tree cover keep soil damp well after the surrounding area has dried. Standing water lingers, foundations stay wet longer after rain, and mosquito habitat persists through more of the season. Properties like these frequently need drainage attention before any treatment is worth doing.
Petersburg and Danville in particular carry a great deal of older housing, and age brings construction details that predate current moisture practice: open crawl spaces with bare soil, wood in direct contact with the ground, original drainage that has silted up, and decades of accumulated repairs. An inspection of a house like that has to read the whole system rather than one symptom.
The signs below are the most common pest and moisture indicators we see in homes in our region. Any of them is worth having looked at during an inspection.
Our specialists evaluate the underlying cause before recommending any work. Inspections are at no cost and there's no obligation to proceed.
Rozier is a family owned, faith-driven company based in South Hill. Because moisture is what invites termites and rodents in the first place, real prevention starts below the surface.
We treat the infestation and correct the moisture conditions that caused it, instead of handing you to a second contractor.
Each home we visit is assessed through a pest lens and a moisture lens, because underneath a house they are the same problem.
We do not arrive with a predetermined treatment and a timer running. What we propose follows from what we find.
Children, pets and sensitive family members are part of the decision about what gets used and how it is applied.

If the cockroaches you are seeing are large, over an inch long, and show up in a basement, a crawl space or near a bathroom drain, they are probably American or smoky brown cockroaches, which are treated differently.
We put the scope and price in writing before work starts, so you know what has been recommended and what it will cost.
