Sealing The Gaps Pests Use To Get In
Exclusion closes the openings insects and rodents are actually using, so fewer of them reach the inside in the first place.
What Pest Exclusion and Gap Sealing Is and When It Is the Right Call
Exclusion begins with the inspection, and the inspection begins outside. The technician walks the foundation looking at every penetration, every vent, the joint between the sill plate and the block, the corners of the garage door and the line where the roof meets the wall. Then the crawl space: light coming in where it should not, rub marks and droppings along a route, insulation pulled into a nest, and gaps at the band board.
Each opening gets a material suited to it. Gaps around utility penetrations are packed and sealed. Sill plate gaps are sealed along the top of the wall. Vent screens are repaired or replaced with mesh fine enough to stop rodents and most insects, unless the crawl space is being encapsulated and the vents are being sealed anyway. Door sweeps and thresholds are replaced or adjusted so the door closes against them. Where rodents have been chewing, the fill has to be a material they cannot chew through.
Exclusion is the right call when the inspection finds specific openings and evidence of what is using them. It is one of the three rodent options we offer, alongside one time bait placement and the Rodent Prevention Program, and it pairs with either. Sealing while rodents are still inside can trap them in the house, so timing is coordinated with baiting. Where nesting material and contaminated insulation are found, they are removed as part of the sanitation.
What it does not do is make a house sealed. Rural and semi rural lots and outbuildings carry constant rodent pressure, and insects find openings too small for anyone to seal. Siding, brick weep holes, garage doors and rooflines all have gaps by design. Exclusion lowers the number of routes in and, combined with the exterior treatment and moisture control under the house, holds the pressure at the lowest practical level. Rozier Pest Control & Waterproofing does the pest work and the crawl space work with one team, and we will tell you at the inspection which openings we can close and which are simply how the house is built.
How We Exclude Pests and Seal Gaps
Inspect the exterior and crawl space
The technician walks the foundation, the vents, the garage door corners and the roofline, then the crawl space, looking for openings and for the rub marks, droppings and nesting that show which ones are in use.
Seal utility penetrations
Gaps where water, gas, electrical and cable lines pass through the foundation are packed and sealed. Where rodents are involved, the fill is a material they cannot chew through.
Close the sill plate gap
The space between the top of the block wall and the sill plate is sealed along its length. This is one of the most common rodent and insect routes into a crawl space in this region.
Repair vent screens
Torn or missing crawl space vent screens are replaced with mesh fine enough to stop rodents and most insects. Vents that will be sealed as part of an encapsulation are handled in that work instead.
Replace door sweeps and thresholds
Worn sweeps at the bottom of exterior doors are replaced and thresholds adjusted so the door closes against them. The garage door corners and the crawl space access door get the same attention.
Remove nesting and coordinate with baiting
Where rodents have been active, contaminated insulation and nesting material are removed as part of the sanitation. Sealing is timed with bait placement so rodents are not closed inside the house.
A Local, Family Owned Team in South Hill
Rozier is a family owned, faith-driven company based in South Hill. Because moisture is what invites termites and rodents in the first place, real prevention starts below the surface.
We treat the infestation and correct the moisture conditions that caused it, instead of handing you to a second contractor.
Each home we visit is assessed through a pest lens and a moisture lens, because underneath a house they are the same problem.
We do not arrive with a predetermined treatment and a timer running. What we propose follows from what we find.
Children, pets and sensitive family members are part of the decision about what gets used and how it is applied.
