What Affects the Cost
Pricing depends on the size of the property, the extent of the problem, and how easy the area is to access.
Silverfish need humidity above all. Where they thrive, moisture is high.
What is the silvery insect that darted across the bathroom floor and vanished under the baseboard? That was a silverfish. They are about half an inch long, flattened, tapered like a carrot, and covered in fine gray scales that give them a metallic look. Three long bristles trail from the rear and two long antennae from the front. They have no wings and move with a fast, side to side wriggle that looks like a fish swimming, which gave them the name. They are nocturnal and shy, so seeing one usually means there are more.
Silverfish need two things: humidity and starch. They thrive in air above roughly 75 percent relative humidity and do poorly below it, which is why they collect in bathrooms, laundry rooms, basements, crawl spaces and, in this region, attics that stay warm and damp through the summer. For food they eat starches and sugars wherever they find them: the glue in book bindings and wallpaper, paper, cardboard, the sizing in fabric and stored clothing, dry cereal and flour, and the dust and dead insects in an attic. They can live for months without eating, and an adult can live for two or three years, so a population builds slowly and then persists.
The damage is to belongings rather than the house. Yellow stains and ragged, irregular holes in paper, books, photographs, wallpaper and fabric are the usual signs, along with tiny pepper like droppings and shed scales in drawers and boxes. Stored items in an attic, a basement or a closet against an exterior wall are the most exposed.
Our approach treats the harborage and the humidity together. The inspection follows the moisture: bathrooms, under sinks, laundry areas, the crawl space, the attic and any spot where paper or fabric is stored in a damp place. The technician treats the cracks and voids where silverfish shelter and the entry points they use, and applies a perimeter treatment, since many silverfish populations start outdoors under siding, in leaf litter and in mulch and work inward.
What holds the result is lowering the humidity. Running the bathroom fan, fixing slow leaks, drying the crawl space and storing paper and fabric in sealed containers rather than cardboard removes what silverfish live on. Because we handle the crawl space and moisture work as well, we can tell you when the useful fix is drier air rather than repeated treatment. Silverfish coverage is part of the pest prevention program, and the population is held at the lowest practical level.
We choose the treatment method based on what we find during the inspection and the type of pest problem on the property.
A precise aerosol injection along baseboards, door frames and kitchen gaps, not a fog.
A residual application along the basement and garage perimeter, where moisture pests collect.
Camel crickets, millipedes and earwigs come in through openings you can close.
Generic advice treats every market identically. Humid summers, wooded lots and a great deal of older housing stock give this region a moisture profile that drives both structural damage and pest pressure, which is why our diagnosis starts with where the home sits and how it is built, not just with the symptom you called about.
For much of the year the outside air across this region holds more moisture than the air under a crawl space. That inverts the assumption foundation vents were built on. Warm, humid air enters through the vents, meets the cooler surfaces beneath the floor, and condenses on joists, ductwork and insulation. The vents intended to dry the space are wetting it instead.
That single mechanism explains most of what we are called out for. Damp framing softens and decays. Mold establishes and its odor rises into the living space through the floor. Termites, cockroaches and rodents are drawn to exactly those conditions. Treating the insects without addressing the moisture underneath simply resets the clock.
Around Lake Gaston and across the forested parts of Mecklenburg, Brunswick, Warren and Halifax counties, shade and tree cover keep soil damp well after the surrounding area has dried. Standing water lingers, foundations stay wet longer after rain, and mosquito habitat persists through more of the season. Properties like these frequently need drainage attention before any treatment is worth doing.
Petersburg and Danville in particular carry a great deal of older housing, and age brings construction details that predate current moisture practice: open crawl spaces with bare soil, wood in direct contact with the ground, original drainage that has silted up, and decades of accumulated repairs. An inspection of a house like that has to read the whole system rather than one symptom.
The signs below are the most common pest and moisture indicators we see in homes in our region. Any of them is worth having looked at during an inspection.
Our specialists evaluate the underlying cause before recommending any work. Inspections are at no cost and there's no obligation to proceed.
Rozier is a family owned, faith-driven company based in South Hill. Because moisture is what invites termites and rodents in the first place, real prevention starts below the surface.
We treat the infestation and correct the moisture conditions that caused it, instead of handing you to a second contractor.
Each home we visit is assessed through a pest lens and a moisture lens, because underneath a house they are the same problem.
We do not arrive with a predetermined treatment and a timer running. What we propose follows from what we find.
Children, pets and sensitive family members are part of the decision about what gets used and how it is applied.

Every home is different, so the cost depends on what we find during the inspection. We provide a written estimate based on the scope of work, access, and site conditions.
Pricing depends on the size of the property, the extent of the problem, and how easy the area is to access.
If the inspection points to a different problem or a simpler solution, we’ll explain that and recommend the appropriate next step.
We put the scope and price in writing before work starts, so you know what has been recommended and what it will cost.
